Self-restraint = Respect for others
Welcome aboard Wendy Doolan, LPGA!
New member, Wendy Doolan said her admiration for the work of Life Athletes was simple. "It changes people's lives for Christ," she said. "I know from experience how it has changed my life to have the Holy Spirit in my heart."
However, she didn't always feel this presence. In recent years she endured a lot of challenges both on and off the golf course. But when she witnessed a friend's life-changing experience with Jesus, everything in her life changed too. "I realized that Satan was behind me, and not beside me anymore. It is Jesus who is with me," she said.
Her caddy even shared a scripture passage that confirmed her new direction, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Do not tremble or be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go," Joshua 1:9. "I have much more strength now as I know it is not from me it is God's strength in me. I have also learned to wait for things, and not push," she said. "In recent years God has shaped me and taught me to be content in each moment by being the best I can be at whatever I am doing and by relying on him to take care of his promises he has revealed to me through his word."
Although she has an Aussie accent and has traveled quite a bit, she has lived in the United States for along time. From this perspective she observes that people are basically the same wherever you go. However she does note that cultures can have strengths and weakness, which help to shape the character of its people. "Young people in the United States have a difficult time learning how to be patient, because so much is available to them all the time," she said. "While such abundance can be a good thing, it can also lead to a lack of self-restraint, which ultimately leads to a lack of respect for others. This is something Life Athletes tries to overcome."
