Detroit Red Wings: NHL, 1994-98
Doug Brown, a member of
the back-to-back Stanley Cup champion Detroit Red Wings, has played the
same sport and same position (right wing) for twelve years. By now he's
quite a hockey specialist. Doug expressed his love of sports by playing
soccer, lacrosse, and hockey in high school. He even played lacrosse at
Boston College during the hockey off-season.
"Play every sport you can while you are
young." The more you accomplish in different sports the better you
will feel as a person. In fact, this hockey player believes that life is
not just about goals (amazing words from a hockey ace!)
Doug does not question the net worth of his
years playing hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. You won't hear this Red Wing
wishing that things had turned out differently. Nor does he echo any
regret at not perfecting his slap shot sooner. Sports are about more than
statistics, and even skills. It's the little trials that count, and
not necessarily the end result.
Teammates mean a lot to Doug. He advises
up-and-coming athletes not to waste the comaraderie found in sports
("Don't be as cold as ice!"). He enjoys his fellow Red Wings, and
mentions the friendships he made in the high school, college, and pro
levels.
No doubt about it: Doug is competitive! His
lifelong love of the thrill of the game, in all three sports, is
indisputable. It's a love everyone can have. Doug believes competing
prepares you for big decisions about life, respecting life, and future
generations.
On the refrigerated battlefields of the NHL, where
the best from Russia, Europe, and North America oust veterans from their
jobs every day, Doug has shown for twelve years that he has the right
stuff! He'll be here to stay, so check him out on ESPN!
